Darrell Lanigan Claims His First LaCrosse Extreme Tough Challenge Victory

CONCORD, NC - Sept. 6, 2010 - Darrell Lanigan dominated the World of Outlaws Late Model Series Oil Region Labor Day Classic on Sunday night at Tri-City Speedway for his first victory in the LaCrosse Footwear Extreme Tough Challenge.

The 2008 World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion, Lanigan jumped to the lead early at the Franklin, Pa., half-mile oval and held off Clint Smith, whose runner-up finish is also his best performance in an Extreme Tough Challenge event.

Josh Richards was third with Shane Clanton finishing fourth and Steve Francis picking up the final point in the Extreme Tough Challenge race. Richards and Clanton are now tied with 16 points, two behind overall leader World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series star Donny Schatz.

At a Glance: 57th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions

WHAT

• The biggest sprint car race of the season on the West Coast awaits the World of Outlaws, as the $50,000 to-win 57th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions is set to take the green flag, September 9-11 at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California. A new format this year will feature all drivers competing on all three nights, with event points being earned on each of the first two nights to determine the starting line-ups for the feature events in the finale on Saturday night. The series standings are razor tight entering this week with Joey Saldana, Steve Kinser and Jason Meyers all separated by just 25 points prior to an event on Labor Day at Grays Harbor Raceway in Washington.

Shawn Rice scores first NWWT win, takes Big E Weekend opener

ELMA, Wash. – Shawn Rice added to his resume on Saturday night when he won a sprint car without wings for the first time as he took the IXL Metal Conditioner NorthWest Wingless Tour feature in the Big E Weekend’s second annual non-wing event.

For the Tacoma, Wash. driver, he said it was his most comfortable outing yet in a wingless car for a driver who is used to racing with wings on. Rice inherited the lead on Lap 4 and led the rest of the 30-lap event with one consistent lap after another to win aboard the RAM Racing No. 76 Shark-powered KPC.

Lanigan Ends Years Of Frustration At Tri-City Speedway With Convincing Victory In ‘Oil Region Labor Day Classic’

FRANKLIN, PA - Sept. 5, 2010 - Tri-City Speedway is no longer a thorn in Darrell Lanigan’s side.

The red-hot driver from Union, Ky., finally ended years of World of Outlaws Late Model Series frustration at the half-mile oval, driving to a convincing victory in Sunday night’s 50-lap Oil Region Labor Day Classic A-Main.

Lanigan, 40, roared off the outside pole to assume command at the initial green flag and never looked back in his GottaRace.com Rocket car. He controlled the entire distance, keeping Clint Smith of Senoia, Ga., at bay en route to his seventh win of the season on the national tour and his long-awaited first-ever at Tri-City.
