Willamette Speedway Cancels Practice; Season Opener Being Targeted For May 5th

By Ben Deatherage - Lebanon, Oregon- The practice scheduled for April 21st at the Willamette Speedway has been cancelled due to grounds not being quite ready for the season.  The next scheduled event is a practice on Saturday April 28th as the practice is scheduled to last from noon to dusk with grandstand admission being at no charge for spectators.  Car and driver entry is only $25.00 while pit passes will be on sale for $15.00 all spectators wishing to watch from the grandstands get in for free.  The Season Opener has been moved to May 5th with all five regular classes scheduled for action; DirtCar Late Models, USRA Modifieds, Sportsman, Classic Sportsman, and Mini Trucks.

“The grounds have just been soaked for months and even though the sun has been out it hasn’t been out enough to dry out the track and pits to fully prepare the race track,” commented General Manager Chris Nofziger, “The sun we have gotten and will hopefully get in the future will help us get closer to getting some cars on the track.”

“We know how anxious everyone is to watch as well as participate we just need the weather to cooperate more.”

The May 5th Season Opener will also be Fight Hunger Night when any fan can bring a can of non-perishable food and receive two dollars off of admission and the food will be donated to the local food bank.  May 12th and 19th will see all five classes in action with the month of May concluding with the Clair (Arnold) Cup.  The Clair Cup will pay tribute to longtime owner and promoter Clair Arnold and will feature the DAA Extreme Late Model Series presented by Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes, DirtCar Late Models, USRA Modifieds, Sportsman, Classic Sportsman, and Mini Trucks.

The Willamette Speedway has operated since the 1960’s and has been regarded as the “Late Model Capitol of the Northwest” for many years and is anxious to host fans with the vast upgrades and improvements done over the 2011-12 winter.  The venue will host the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series and the American Sprint Car Series-National Tour along with weekly action comprising of DirtCar Late Models, USRA Modifieds, Sportsman, Classics, and Mini Trucks.  For more information on the latest news and stories regarding the Willamette Speedway log on to www.trophymotorsports.com.
