Cuellar and Jeffery Take Wins at State Fair Raceway Sept 14th
Sept 14, 2002 - Yakima, WA -With only a handful
of dirt track starts Bill Cuellar outlasted late charges by Eric
Kastl to take the win in the Pure Stock division and Chris
Jeffery continued to dominate in the Hobby Stock division to take
another win on Friday night.
Bill Cuellar started on the pole after taking a trophy dash win
and began to run away with the 25 lap main event as the field
bunched up behind him. Rick Hargraves, Steve Kastl and Dan
Monroe were caught up in a battle for the first few laps until
Monroe encountered mechanical problems and was forced to drop
back through the field. While Cuellar was running away for
the first half of the race, Eric Kastl was working his way
through the field from his seventh place starting position.
In the closing laps Eric Kastl was able to get by Steve Kastl to
put pressure on Cuellar to finish in second place, while Steve
Kastl was third, Hargraves and Paul Manka rounded out the top
five. Manka took the win in the first heat race, while Dan
Monroe took the checkers in heat race number two.
Chris Jeffery continued his dominance in the Hobby Stock
division, with another trophy dash win and a dominating
performance in the 25 lap main event. Jeffery was
challenged early by Elma's Jim Oien who took the initial lead and
Jeffery was forced to work his way up to and eventually pass
Oien, who had ignition problems and was forced to drop out of the
race at the half way point. With Oien off the track,
Jeffery continued to pick off lapped cars and nearly lapped the
entire field twice. Behind Jeffery first time dirt racers ,
Andy Beamon and Jeremy Lanartz battled with another first timer
Butch Topett and Dave Denton rounded out the top five,

July 29, 2002 Yakima, Wa- The action was fast and
furious on the Central Washington clay oval, as Chris Jeffery and
Steve Kastl take wins and both extend their points lead.
The Hobby Stock division saw more mechanical difficulties this
week as Chris Jeffery cruised to another clean sweep. The
heat race was an eight lap affair with Jeffery taking the win,
with Michael Plunkett and John Zimmerman in the battle for second
position. Jeffery also took the checkers in the six lap
trophy dash with Plunkett and Zimmerman finishing as they did in
the heat race. The 25 lap main event went green to
checkered as Jeffery cruised to the win, with James Adams taking
home second with Harold Emmons and Michael Plunkett battling for
third with Emmons coming out the victor.
The inside third row was the spot to be as Paul Manka, the heat
race winner, and Steve Kastl, the 25 lap main event winner, both
started from the fifth position to take wins in the Pure Stock
division. The eight lap heat race saw Manka come from fifth
to win, and Kastl from seventh to place second, as the side by
side racing action continues each and every week. Mark
Tenney saw the checkers first in the trophy dash as he powered
away from the field and took his first win of the season.
The twenty five lap main event again saw great racing action with
Tenney taking the early lead and holding off the charge from
Kastl for nearly twenty laps, but on lap nineteen Kastl was able
to get under Tenney coming out of turn four to take the point,
and never look back. The only yellow of the night came out
on lap 22, to set up a four lap shoot out with Steve Kastl, Mark
Tenney and Eric Kastl, who had been moving through the field
after starting in the eighth and final spot. Eric Kastl!
was able to put a nose under Tenney as the white lag came
out and take second with Tenney finishing third and Manka and
Daric Shoemaker rounding out the top five.
This week the track will be silent, givign the racers a much
needed week off, but racing will resume on Friday, August 9th, as
KCYU FOX TV presents the next event in our summer racing
series. All tickets are half price, with Adults 15 and over
paying only $4.00, children 6 - 14 are only $1 and children 5 and
under are free.

Heat Carries Over to State Fair Raceway July 12th
By Michael Troy
Yakima, WA July 12, 2002 - The heat of the Central
Washington Valley carried over to State
Fair Raceway this past Friday night, as the battles raged on for
the title of
Champion.
The Hobby Stock division again was plagued with mechanical
problems, as Deborah
Hanson was forced out of the heat race, and only two competitors
made the call
for the trophy dash. The heat played a big factor in how the cars
performed,
or did not perform. Chris Jeffery seems to have his mechanical
woes taken care
of as he recorded a clean sweep for the evening with a heat race,
trophy dash
and main event win. The battles went on behind Jeffery, as he
cruised to his
fourth win of the season. Harold Emmons continued to run
consistent laps to
score a second place finish, with John Zimmerman coming past the
stripe in
third in only his first dirt start this year.
The two heat races in the Pure Stock division went green to
checkered as Eric
Kastl out lasted Steve Kastl in heat number one and first time
dirt racer,
Blair Shoemaker made some tough moves to bring home the checkers
in heat two,
followed closely by Dan Monroe. The Pure Stocks also ran a 25 lap
main event
with many passes throughout the race, as Steve Kastl was forced
to start at the
rear of the field after earning a front row starting position by
winning in the
trophy dash. While running the trophy dash, Steve Kastl had
mechanical
problems on the last lap and had to borrow a car to start the
main event. As
he started at the tail of the field, he worked his way through
the field one by
one, finally taking the lead for good on lap 13. Dan Monroe and
Paul Manka,
coming into the night tied for second place in points, waged
their own battle
with Monroe coming in ahead of Manka at the stripe.
This weeks coming event will be the hy-per-lube Northern Sprint
Tour, as they
make their stop here during their annual Northwest Speedweek. The
drivers of
these mud slinging, horsepower driven vehicles will race six
nights straight at
five different tracks, making their stop at State Fair Raceway on
Thursday,
July 18. Gates will open at 6 with racing scheduled to start at
8. Adults (15
and over) are $14.00, Jr (6-14) are $2.00 and children 5 and
under are FREE.
